Quick start

Get up and running with Rebuttr in just 5 minutes.

Prerequisites

Make sure you have installed Rebuttr and configured your OpenCode API key before starting.

Step 1: Launch Rebuttr

Open your terminal and start Rebuttr:

$ rebuttr

Your browser will automatically open to http://localhost:3001. You'll see the Rebuttr dashboard with no papers yet.

Step 2: Create a New Paper

Click the "New Paper" button in the top-right corner. Fill in the details:

Field Description
Title Your manuscript title
Journal Target journal name
Authors Comma-separated author list

Click "Create Paper" to continue.

Step 3: Import Your Reviews

Now add your peer review comments. You have several options:

Option A: Paste Text Directly

  1. Click "Add Review" on your paper page
  2. Select the reviewer (Reviewer 1, 2, 3, or Editor)
  3. Paste the review text into the text area
  4. Click "Import"

Option B: Upload a File

  1. Click "Add Review"
  2. Click the "Upload File" tab
  3. Drag and drop a PDF, DOCX, or TXT file
  4. Rebuttr will extract the text automatically
Auto-Parsing

Rebuttr automatically splits reviews into individual comments and categorizes them (major, minor, technical, editorial).

Step 4: Generate AI Responses

With your reviews imported, you can now use AI to help draft responses:

  1. Click on any comment to expand it
  2. Click the "Generate Response" button
  3. An AI expert panel will analyze the comment
  4. Review the suggested response and edit as needed
  5. Click "Accept" to save the response

Step 5: Export Your Rebuttal

Once you've drafted responses to all comments, export your rebuttal letter:

  1. Click "Export" in the paper toolbar
  2. Choose your format (Word, PDF, or Markdown)
  3. Select which comments to include
  4. Click "Download"

Your rebuttal letter will be formatted with reviewer comments followed by your responses, ready for submission.
